Migration law (work permit)

In accordance with the Law “On the legal status of Foreigners in the Russian Federation” all foreign employees working in legal entities (or in Representative or Branch offices) have to obtain work permits.

The procedure for obtaining employment and work permit is the following:

  1. Obtaining an approval to employ foreign employees at the Employment center;
  2. Obtaining an approval to employ foreign employees at the Moscow Department of Federal Employment Service;
  3. Obtaining an employment permit at the Federal Migration Service;
  4. Obtaining a personal work permit from the Migration service.

Migration Service and Labor inspections conduct external checks of all legal entities that have employees on the existence of work permits and impose penalties in case of non-compliance.
